Vegan Seitan Mix Recipe

This vegan seitan mix is perfect to keep on hand in your pantry!

Some of you may have purchased a Seitan product at some point in the past. It seems like it would be a super complicated thing to make. But I’m here to tell you, it’s as simple as mixing up some flour!

Vegan Seitan Mix Recipe

As some of you may already know, I’m taking the plant based cooking course at Rouxbe. They are a wonderful school with a fantastic, online cooking program. (No, I was not paid to promote them.)

I got their permission to share a couple of recipes from the course I’m taking, and I thought this would be an excellent recipe to start with.

Seitan can be made with so many different flavorings and sauces! It’s pretty much the perfect replacement for meat if you’re new to this and really missing it. And for more seasoned vegans, this recipe is a wonderful way to bulk up foods such as tacos, stews, sausages and more.

Note that this recipe is only for the dry mix. My next recipe here for Vegan Barbecue Glazed Seitan Brisket will share the second recipe from my program. It will give you the details on using this mix.

A simple, easy recipe for making Seitan mix! Please note that this makes a lot of seitan. So don’t panic at the nutrition data.

Course: Base Recipe, Dry Mix

  • 2 1/2 cups vital wheat gluten flour
  • 1/3 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tbsp. onion granules
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. garlic granules
  1. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly in a medium to large mixing bowl.
